sfc_os.dll replacement

Hello Jon, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Here's a copy from my system. You will need to take ownership of the file on your system and "Allow" your user account "Full Control" of it before Vista will allow you to replace it with my copy.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

Tkanks for trying to help but this file makes my problem worse.

At startup, when Sidebar tries to launch, I get several errors, "C:\Windows\system32\sfc_os.DLL is either not designed to run on Windows or it contains an error." My system starts fine but without Sidebar. When I try to launch Outlook, I get the error again, but Outlook seems to run fine. Later, when I "run sidebar", the program launches and runs just fine.

I have reset the permissions but apparently I need a different version of sfc_os.dll.

Jon,

You might see if running a sfc /scannow command in a elevated command prompt may be able to repair the file since it's a system file.

If you know when this may have happened, then you might be able to do a system restore using a restore point (if available) dated before the file went bad to fix it.

Not sure when file went bad. Do not have old enough restore point.
Except for sidebar, the errors do not seem to prevent any program
from executing. So the error messages are an annoyance but don't
seem to be a critical problem.

Here's a copy from a 64-bit Vista Ultimate w/SP2 installation disc to see if this may help.

Other than doing a factory restore to reinstall Vista, I'm not sure what else will fix it since we tried all of the above. :(
