Corrupted luainstall.dll in Vista 64 bit

For the last couple weeks I have had my computer freeze up after about 10 minutes of inactivity. I have run virus scans and chkdsk, and they both get hung up on the following file:

c:\windows\sysWOW64\luainstall.dll

I have attempted to rename, erase, and replace this file to no avail. If I attempt a replacement I receive the message that I need adminstrator access. Even clicking on the file in its directory hangs my system.

Doing a Quick Scan with Microsoft Security Essentials hangs when it comes to that file also. I suspect that the file is corrupted.

My question is this - how can I replace this file, or even erase it if it is no longer needed?

Thanks for any help.

Thanks, but neither of those programs work. Both rquire that you select the file to delete or unlock (in this case, luainstall.dll), and hang the system when you do.

Someone will probably post a simple solution soon.

For now,I'll add the idea of booting into an Ubuntu Live CD and deleting or renaming the file.
