Restore points gone.. No Windows Update

Hello.

Recently, my lapotop has been very troubling, I cannot work on it anymore.

It seems that there are many problems at once.

First, I noticed that the restore points are gone and it is no longer functioning the automatic Windows Update, or any updates for that matter.

For Windows Update: I recieve this error:
An error occured while checking for new updates for your computer
Error(s) Found: Code 8024001F

Upon starting, I recieve this message:
Error Loading C:\Users\DAAAA-1\AppData\Local\Temp\sshnas21.dll
The specified module could not be found.

And halfway through, I recieve this message:
Hot Process For Windows Service has stopped working and was closed.
A problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will notify you if a solution is available.

I have also recieved some Exception Processing Messages with a bunch of codes eg: 0x000007b Parameters
0x756891B0 ... Error loading.. etc

Does anyone know what the problem is?
Any help would be highly appreciated!

Thank you

First thing, if possible
Run anti virus scan
Download and scan with malwarebytes.

Thank you for replying.

I ran the sfc/scannow. The result was: Windows Resource Protection found corrupt files but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs CBS\CBS.log

As for the Malwarebytes Full Systems Scanning; it is still progressing and has not finished. So far no infected objects have been found.

Should I run the sfc/scannow again?

Run it several times. It may take time to fix all. If it cannot, the next step is a repair install.

A repair install, is basically, running the DVD, again, so any errors are corrected. Not a problem, but you need the Vista DVD. If not, we will try something else.

Yes I assume it was pre installed because there was no CD. Installation was upon the first boot.

It is a TOSHIBA model no. PSLBØE -Ø6RØ21S4
Satellite L300 - 171 System Unit

Richc46, I have often thought of doing that but I assumed it was unecessary.
I also haven't stored my important files, documents etc on a backup external hard disc.

Is there anyway to fix this without losing anything?

My Computer

This may not be Possible Because there are no Restore Points and could be really hard, Do you have a Spare HDD you can use or multiple FlashDrives

Sorry :( ,
Josh

Can you get to the system recovery options in safe mode?

Shadow - No I don't have them but I plan on purchasing them sooner or later. Just thought I'd leave it as a last resort and try everything there is to be done first.
Its ok, Don't be sorry! :)

Richc - I can get to safe mode by restarting it; which one with networking or prompt? And what/where is repair console...?

Btw, can anyone please explain how this happened? No restore points.. no updates... laptop messed up..? I know this happens all the time but it was very sudden.

Any idea how it happened as to avoid whatever aggravated it in the future?

My guess would be some sort of virus.

I have used the Repair option upon booting (F8) - and Recovered my computer entirely.
Works perfectly now. Although everything is deleted - I stored the important files in an external hard drive. Computer is running smoothly now.

Richc46, Shadowjk: Thank you for the help! =)
