Access Denied Hard Drive (PLEASE HELP)

    WHAT I HAVE:
    *Toshiba Satellite A130/A135 series
    *Windows Vista Home Basic 32bit
*1st hard drive that came with laptop with the OS on it
*2nd hard drive I separately installed (ST9250827AS ATA Device)

    PROBLEM:
*I Reimaged my OS with the CD that came with the Toshiba laptop (Recovery and Applications/Drivers)

*I took out my extra internal hardrive (ST9250827AS ATA Device) for what i though would be good measure. I dont know if that was the right thing to do.

*I Reimaged my 1st hard drive with thte CD (everything went accordingly)

*Reinstalled my 2nd hard drive (ST9250827AS ATA Device).

*I now no longer have access to it. It gives me an error message of (H:\ is not accessible - access is denied) Note: It used to be named E:\ but i started trouble shooting and inadvertently renamed it to H:\.

    QUESTION:
*what can i do to recover this hard drive??? I have over 5000 pics, not to mention 1000's of old, old famlily photos i spent 6 months scanning and saving and also family videos. I CAN NOT afford to lose what I have acquired on this hard drive over the the past 3 years.

    *Am I doomed??

    *is this an easy fix??

*If it is not an easy fix, will I need to go to a computer shop and spend "X" amount of money to recover it??

*Please let me know what my options are if any. (i have NOT reformated the disk) and hoping all my data is still on this hard drive.

NOTE: I DO have administrator rights

Re: Access Dinied Hard Drive (PLEASE HELP)

Try right click on computer, manage, expand storage, click disc management.
In the center section click on the drive and try giving it another letter.
    save changes.

Re: Access Denied Hard Drive (PLEASE HELP)

OK, I'll try.As I understand you can see the drive in Start,Computer.
You have checked the security permissions and your account has full control of the drive.
You have checked that the drive was not given a letter that was in use.
Have you been to Device Manager and updated the driver?
I sent you to a link that puts a Take Ownership option on your right click menu
That should give you all the permissions you need.
If that doesn't work we will have to look at something other than permissions.

Re: Access Denied Hard Drive (PLEASE HELP)

To take ownership once you have downloaded the .reg file click and merge.
Then go to the drive you are having problems with and right click on the drive,
The take ownership option will be on the list, click it.
