Solved Dual booting question.

Alright, I have a Samsung R720.
With Windows Vista Home Premium x32.

I want to have both Windows Vista, and Windows XP on my PC.
Problem is, when I bought my notebook I never got a Windows Vista, thus it doesn't let me go to Vista recovery so I can add the command to the CMD so Vista boots first.

I already made a partition for XP which is empty now, so is there any other way to do this without having the Vista disk?

I have the XP disk though.

You will probably need to make a recovery disk, like Shadow mentioned.
After you made the disk and made sure it worked, Install Windows XP like you normally would. After that, use your Vista repair disk to restore the Windows Vista/7 Boot loader. You can do that by booting from the repair disk, then after selecting the language, choose "Repair computer" If it does not automatically fix the problem, select the Vista installation and pick "Startup Repair". After repairing the problems, restart and boot to Vista.

Now, for creating a entry in the boot loader for Windows XP, I would download Easy BCD. Now you COULD make an entry for XP using the repair disk, but I find this method easier. EasyBCD is a simple program to use, so I suspect you will figure it out. Just do a google search for it, and download it from the first link.

Hope I could help. Good luck!

I only have an Windows XP CD...
My Notebook came with Vista installed and I didn't get a CD. (I only have a recovery partition).

Is it ok if I download the recovery files here and burn them on a blank CD?
Windows Vista Recovery Disc Download — The NeoSmart Files

Yes this is Safe as Tnuh555 Said Install Xp then Boot into the Recovery Disk that you made and Do a Startup Repair if this doesn't work Open up Command Prompt and Type the Following:

Code:
bootrec.exe /fixboot

then Enter

Code:
bootrec.exe /fixmbr

Hopefully it would have fixed the Master Boot Record (MBR) For Vista

Hope This Helps,
Josh

Thanks guys!

I have made a recovery USB, well, thanks to all these guides on here.

Anyway, it works, I can start the recovery CD and open CMD, so I guess it would be safe to install XP now :D.

I'm on XP now...

The fixboot thing doesn't work.

I entered Vista Recovery, opened CMD, entered bootrec.exe /fixboot, and it gave me a error message, something with Volume.. cant remember entirely.

Startup recoveryd did not work either, doesn't find any errors.

Is vista installed onto the Hard Drive?
