I have a Dell Inspiron 1720 that came with Windows Vista 32Bit already on it. It lasted for about a year and completely crashed about a month after my warranty ran out and Dell refused to help me without a purchase of new warranty. When it crashed I attempted to turn it on and it would just have colored lines on the screen and occasionally would do a system check at which time it would say Fatal Error and refuse to work. In an attempt to retrieve my files I loaded an Ubuntu disk into my computer and was able to access my files and save them. I then tried to re-install Windows Vista but it would get part way through and just stop installing. It would just sit there. So I am now running Ubuntu 10.04 and have been for about a year but I would like to return to Windows Vista. I have the disk to install and I put it in. Everything goes well until it asks me to choose a disk. It tells me that my primary disk is not formatted correctly and so I hit format and it says it cannot because of error code 0x80004005. I then tried to do a startup repair and it said it found an error that it could not fix there and the error said "System volume on disk is corrupt". I just wanted to know if there is anything I can do to fix it or if a new hard drive is my only option. I just don't understand why Ubuntu can work but Windows cannot. Any help would be appreciated.
