issues with system health report.

I am running Vista SP2 Home Premium and I get a message every time I run system health reports. It says I have no Antivirus or Malware running on my system.
I have Avast 4.8 as the Antivirus and for spy/malware protection Spybot, Malwarebytes and Spyware Blaster.
For a while the security center ALSO reported no Antivirus/Malware protection. Resovled this issue by reinstalling Avast and rebuilding the /Windows/System32/WBEM/Repository folder by deleting it (temp stopping the WMI in services) and reboot.
but the health report still says no antivirus or malware programs detected.
System Center looks normal.
Been doing googling on the issue and seems that some vendors such as Norton have said this is a possible bug with both Win7 and Vista. Probably due to a bad windows update (the monthly ones). Makes since because this issue started not too long ago.
It's not a biggie but I like having my system healthy and smooth :D
Any other people had this happen?? If not, I recommend trying the health report (in Control Panel - Performance Info and tools - Advanced tools - Generate System Health report) for the rec I use control panel in Classic View.
you might get the same results..

Its a bug. The way to resolve it is to use Microsoft Security Essentials
and
Malwarbytes
and
The windows firewall
'
This is excellent protection, used by most of us here, free and easy to use

You may be able to find a temporary fix with other software, but it will problably be short lived.

Good luck

Thanks for the reply. I knew it was a possible bug.
I hear great things about MSE thinking of trying it but I have Avast Pro which runs out early next yr (14 month sub). I liked that product so much over the yrs I went with the Pro which is substantially lower cost than the other "major" vendors (i.e. Norton, McAfee.. etc). My Avast free key seems immortal :)
But anyway in Security Center shows everythings fine and I know all my spy/mal/virus protections are functioning. I have MalwareBytes as well :)
Thanks for the advise!

It's a confirmed bug from Symantec. Maybe a fix will be released soon from Microsoft.
BTW
Your quote...
"Always make a system restore point before making changes to your operating system"
Yeah good point but for the record I tend to disable that feature it fills up your HD space and I haven't had much luck with the feature in the past. My method is using Acronis True Image for backups at least once a month. Very reliable for me and also useful for backing up whole partitions and for my Linux (Fedora 11) system I have on by box dual-booted.
anyway thanks for the reply.

Yes, your system is good and would work. Not my cup of tea, however. Small problem with OS, with SR just OS is changed. With your system, personal documents etc. But there is no right or wrong as long as you are backed up and are happy; its the way to go.

And Thank You so much for the rep. It makes us feel good when received.
