Hi new here just signed up :)

Im having a problem with my performance options and windows aero.

ok well it all started i did a system rating where you update your score on your computer, then i shut down my computer for the night then the next day i turned it on and ever since then my theme keeps changing to windows classic
then i'll go to sysdm.cpl a change it to "adjust for best appearance" then that fixes the problem but as soon as i restart my computer were back where we started with the classic and it changing to custom under performance options on its own, and when i turn my computer on it's not classic right away when i turn it on but it just changes to classic out of nowhere and when im booting my computer up it says please wait with the little circle spinning then it goes to the log in screen, just in case that may have something to do with it and its never done that untill i did that system rating.

please help

my computer is

windows vista home premium
service pack 2

Looks like your drivers messed up as I see no graphics card, and if you were able to run aero beforehand, you have to have had one. If you know the graphics card you own, get the drivers for it. Report back if you can't.

oh wow i didn't even see that (i dont really know much about computers when it gets technical XD) thanks

and how do i get the drivers do i download them from a website?

My Computer

Well, seems like you don't know the graphics card. Do you have a discrete graphics card, or is it onboard? If it is onboard, than my previous post was wrong as I see the Intel 965 Chipset, but it seems like it must not be enabled if so. Right click on My Computer, select Properties, then click Device Manager in the left pane, allow it on UAC, and go to display drivers. In the dropdown menu, right click Intel 965 Express Chipset Family (or something similar) and in the driver tab, select enable. If it says disable instead, you may have a discrete graphics solution. Give me the manufacturer and model of the computer, along with whether it is a laptop or desktop. Here's an example of my computer:

Manufacturer: HP
Type: Laptop
Model: dv6-1240us

Anywho, it's extremely odd for a driver to just disappear out of nowhere like that. Scan your PC for viruses, even if it doesn't make sense for a virus to do that to one driver that only affects the interface slightly. I suggest Malwarebyte's AntiMalware, or SpyBot Search and Destroy. With Spybot SnD, do NOT install the Tea Timer as it is a resource hog and can mess up a lot of things like .msi installations and drivers.

Alright i checked all that and did a scan with malware bytes twice and i think i have a discrete graphics card because when i went to the device manager it had disabled.

Manufacturer: HP
Type: Laptop
Model: presario c700

and do you think when i did the system rating that deleted my driver(s) because everything was working fine before but after i did the system rating everything messed up.

My Computer

Seems there is no discrete graphics card, which I figured as soon as I knew it was a laptop. Try new drivers for the Intel GMA 965 Santa Rose. Don't use windows update or the device manager updater. Find them online.

One last thing, if you want increased performance, try modded drivers which iron out a lot of kinks and make it able to run games! They can potentially be buggy, but if you want to play games it's the way to go. It isn't a must if you are just working and browsing the web.

Support for the Mobile Intel

Get the latest driver from here download to your desktop.
Go to device manager expand the graphics, right click on the intel chipset, update the driver.
When it asks do you want to go on line or browse click browse and go to the downloaded file on your desktop.
Restart your computer after driver updates

You also only have one Gig of RAM. Try to use two if you can in dual channel.
