I have been trying to back up my computer and keep getting this message: "Insufficient storage availabe to create either the shadow copy storage file or other shadow copy data (0x8004231F)".Can anyone offer a solution.

How large is your hard drive. How much space devoted to back up. How much of that is used?
Go to Computer Right Click on the drive go to properties and see how full it is.
You will need to either delete or transfer items out onto another drive or discs.
it is Gateway Gt5438 with 320 GB and 2048 mb for memory according to specs
Do you have a backup drive. Yes or no? Either way how much space left on your drives.
Yes, I have a back up drive I just installed yesterday. But my computer won't back up to it giving the same shadow copy message. My computer's c: has 207 GB free. The d: is 9.71 GB but only has 5.18 MB free.

that's odd. Try it in safe mode? Can't really think of anything else.
