Search - Results = Favorites and History

I routinely delete my Favorites and History from IE. However, I recently typed in a couple of letters in the search bar from the start menu and some old history links appeared. These are not saved favorite links. When I right click to open file location, IE opens. But when I look in the favorites or even history, it is not located there. How can I get rid of these links.

I've tried all the common methods of deleting history, including CCleaner and all the options in IE, and cleaning my c: drive, and defrag.

First let me say that I do not advise that this be done and I would not take a chance with my computer.
If you insist make sure you make a system restore point first and back up registry

Thanks, but I don't think the problem is related. It's only when I search from the windows start button that these links show up. But either way, I wouldn't mess with the registry.
