    Clean Up Temp Files

I was helping another member regain space on his hard drive. After doing disc cleanup, many temp files remained, per the excellent software windirstat
    http://windirstat.info/
Further analysis revealed that it was his temporary files (20gb). With the help of Brinks excellent tutorial (http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/104637-temporary-files-temp-folder-3.html)
    The 20gb were deleted.

I checked my own computer and realized that in spite of monthly maintenance, including clean disc (all files and system files), I had 3gb of temp files, which I was able to delete.

Place this great tutorial resouce in your favorites or bookmarks and use the %temp% command once a month. The first time you try you will be amazed.

I was watching that thread for a while but didn't see the conclusion - so CCcleaner didn't clear out those files either? That's surprising. I guess I now need to check my own system as I assumed what I was doing was working and haven't really confirmed it.

Thanks, Richard, for the advice and the links.

In fact, TFC can scrape up even more (though now you have both done that, there will done be a small amount of residue left over) Please note that it will close all programs, and restart your computer, so please SAVE ALL WORK before even opening it.

TFC (Temp File Cleaner) - Download here or here - Homepage
Why? This will remove unneeded temporary files from your system, make automated scans that follow run faster, and save you time. Many infections also load from a temporary file location.
    • Download TFC to your desktop, or other location.
    • Save any unsaved work. TFC will close all open application windows.
    • Double-click TFC.exe to run the program.
    • If prompted, click "Yes" to reboot.

Save your work. TFC will automatically close any open programs, let it run uninterrupted. It shouldn't take longer take a couple of minutes, and may only take a few seconds. Only if needed will you be prompted to reboot.

I was reluctant to say just delete. I gave him an alternative. Do you think we could just delete?
