Task scheduler error

I hope this is in the right spot but I opened my Task scheduler and got and error that said
"the task image is corrupt or has been tampered with .mcupdate"

So I followed this
Windows Vista Task Scheduler: How to Fix Error | Matt Weber

I followed it and it worked and I was wondering if this the correct fix?

That is a good fix. If certain files get corrupt, you can just delete them, and Windows will re-create them for you, an example being the icon cache. This is not quite like this, so can you please check that it has been recreated successfully. Thanks!

It has not been recreated, but it seems it was for the media center the pathway was
C:\Windows\System32\Tasks\Microsoft\Windows\Media Center\mcudate

The media center seems to be working ok unless Im missing something.

After examining mine, it appears to be to do with the auto-update feature of the Media Center, and user specific. If any problems develop, we will stick my one in, modify the SID, and see how things work.

Good luck!

SFC might work - or it might at least identify the corrupt file or files causing the problem. It's certainly worth a shot and it might tell us something useful. Give it a try and let us know how it goes. If you want, you can post the CBS.LOG here so we can help you look for any problems (unless SFC says no integrity violations were found).

Good luck!

it looks like the only errors are still with the settings.ini and tcpmon.ini. Those have been there since I bought this PC so I'm not too concerned, unless I missed something.

Ok thank you guys for the help the file after sfc is still gone, I'll leave it be for now and see if any problems pop up. I don't know where I would be without this site. Thanks again.

Well, you're right that the only errors appear to be tcpmon.ini and settings.ini - you didn't miss anything. If they've always been there and have caused you no problems, then perhaps leaving things as they are is the best policy. On the other hand, if you do want to fix these two issues, here are two procedures to do so:

If you have a genuine Vista Installlation Disk, we can possibly replace these corrupted files with good copies from the disk using: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/261616-extract-files-vista-installation-dvd.html.

The other way to resolve the problem (and you again need a genuine Vista Installation Disk) is with a system repair/upgrade: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/88236-repair-install-vista.html.

Whether you want to do this or just leave things as they are since you're not indicating that these files are causing you any problems is entirely up to you. If it were me, I'd probably leave things alone unless you discover a function, process, or program that doesn't work correctly and determine that one or both of these files is the cause - then it may be time to do something about it.

===========================================================

I do not believe that either of these issues has anything to do with the problem you had and have apparently fixed. It was an easy fix and if Media Center is working fine and you no longer get the message, then I'd say the situation is pretty much resolved.

I hope this helps and I'm glad to hear that the problem seems to be resolved.

Good luck!
