recovery drive(D:) question

I have this recovery drive(D:) next to my c: drive.
How can I use this drive? I want to reformat my computer.
Do I need a CD to burn it and use it? or is ther a ohter ways to use this?

It is a partition added by the manufacturer (HP in your case?) so that if the PC develops problems it can be used to recover the PC to a state like when it was brand new, the instructions for an HP PC are below.
Be advised: doing this will delete everything on the Windows partition so don't do it unless necessary.

If you want to delete this partition you can but you should create the "Recovery Disk Set" before you do.

HP Recovery Center

Be advised that this will take the machine back to the point when you first took it of the box.

The "HP Recovery Center" will give you the option to send to backup anything you
don't want to lose, so have backup media available to use if you choose this option.

With the machine off press the power button, as soon as you do that start tapping the F11 key.

It may take several attempts to do this, if the first attempt fails, try again.
That should take you to the HP Recovery Center. When there just follow the prompts.

It is pretty much self explanatory. From the time you boot into F11 (not counting
any backups you choose to make) you should be back on a working desktop in about
30 minutes. After it restarts just follow the prompts again to finish the process.

If your first option is system restore select no, which should take you to system recovery.
You want to try system recovery not system restore, unless you have good restore points!

Adding to what Bare Foot Kid said, I recommend you create the recovery disks from the recovery partition as soon as you have a chance (even if you intend to keep the recovery partition which i recommend). If the hard drive fails completely, you may lose all partitions on it (including the recovery partition) and then your only means of restoring the computer to factory conditions will be the recovery disks. While you probably would be able to purchase replacement disks from HP for a nominal fee, that would cost money and take time. Get it done yourself for the cost of a few blank CDs and sleep better knowing you have that option available if it is ever needed.
