Solved Can't seem to change theme

I keep trying to change my vista theme and it refuses to work. I have vista home 64 bit, with bit defender as an antivirus. I want a windows 7 look. So of course i googled it and have been working on it. But It wont happen for me. I go to change my theme and it keeps reverting to classic windows theme. And even my vista theme is classic windows now too. Idk what's going on, I would greatly appreciate some help, thanks alot

What exactly did you Google? Did you download something?

If so, shoot the link for the page from which you got it from.

well at first i tried using this theme:Windows 7 Style For Vista by =giannisgx89 on deviantART and when it didn't work i tried a few others, and none of them seem to work. all that happens is that it goes back to classic windows view. and i googled first how to add themes to vista. then how to make them work and im stumped. Im usually pretty good with these kind of things...

I figured it out. I followed these instructions here:How to Patch Windows Vista to Enable Custom Themes (Visual Styles) - How-To Geek I guess i needed to take ownership over some files...thanks alot for replying to try and help. greatly appreciated!
