Re: Icon Cache - Rebuild

Hi GradeAbra,

The taskbar (the Quick Launch Menu) is programmed to start programs with only one click even if you have everything else (your folders, start menu, desktop and basically all other items) configured to use double-clicks. The taskbar cannot be changed to double-click - that's the way it is programmed and it is behaving normally if that is happening - you don't have a problem.

If you find you actually prefer this, you can change the rest of the system to use single clicks instead of double-clicks using the following: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/40246-single-click-option.html.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Re: Icon Cache - Rebuild

That's called the Notification Area. On my system, some of these icons open with a single click and some with a double-click. Some show menus with a single click and open with a double-click. I do not know why yours all open with a single click - it may depend on which ones are there. Can you provide an example or several examples of an icon that used to open with a double-click that now does so with only a single click? I do not know how to change how that works for the individual items. I do not know how the click property can be configured or even if there is a way.

Perhaps the problem can be resolved with a reset and clear of the Notification Items. Although not specifically for this purpose (I notice you checked there for the purpose of the procedure and Brink told you and said nothing about it working for this situation which is true - I did say it wasn't specifically for this purpose - but I'm just hoping that it might help since any reset often changes things and it may return things here to what you consider to be normal), so doing so may help with the "problem" (or it may not help at all but it will do no harm even if it doesn't work and I think it's worth a try). Here's the procedure: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/99008-notification-icons-reset.html.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Well, with my systems, single click can open menus, and double click opens the program... if applicable.

Yes this is true! It might be the case that your computer is slow and some programs come up with single while heavier comes up after double clicking

My Computer

Since we've discovered that this applies to the notification area and not the quick launch area (well, it does apply to the quick launch icons too, but that's to be expected as that's how they're all set to work), I don't think that the speed of your system has anything to do with the problem. I sincerely doubt it was so slow before that you thought you needed to double-click because single-click was taking so much time to work in every case. If that were true, you would have had many other problems from the same cause - it wouldn't have just affected the notification area icons.

As I noted in the other thread, perhaps the reset is worth a try (even if it is unlikely to work at least it's a possible option). Otherwise, some information on the icons you have in the notification area might help us compare to our systems (if we have the same ones or can add the same ones) and see how they work for us. I've done further research and can find no settings that control the clicking function for notification area icons so I'm not sure what else to suggest that isn't too radical given the problem - but I will keep looking.

Good luck!
