Saving As document type to be read on another computer

I have a document in Word which I want to send in Email to another person who does not have Word.

Which type do I "save as" for the document to be seen by recipient?

If not too long, just copy and paste.

or he can use the free open office

Are you able to save it as a PDF? Or, are you able to print and scan it or fax it to yourself, and then send it as a scanned or faxed doc (in whatever format you use for scanned and faxed docs)?

Save it as a .txt, and notepad or wordpad will open it.

I tried to copy and paste my document (which was actually a poster) to Email but it did not copy the insert picture.
I did not know about open www.officeoffice.org and will look into it.

I do have a PDF and XPS in “Save As” but I do not understand what publish means.
I have tried scan and print and sent them in Email but still awaiting for a reply to say it was successful.

In this context I believe the word publish would be pretty much interchangeable with the word print.

Seeing as theirs pictures, .txt won't work I believe.

Lok into openoffice.. it's quite good.

I scanned the poster and sent it to Windows Photo Gallery. E mailed it from there.

It was successful.
