Shortcut Corruption [.lnk Files]

Hey there everyone. I usually don't have any problem with cleaning up my system every now and then and have been doing it for years now. The smooth sailing ended yesterday when i used RegSeeker instead of my usual TuneUp Utilities to clean my registry. I noticed immediately after that all shortcut files (.lnk) had lost their distinctive icons and instead had a white square box on them. All attempts at rectifying this have been futile and I've officially run out of ideas. The interesting thing is it seems Notepad has become the default program for opening the .lnk's. Pictures summarizing my dilemma follow and any suggested solutions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
