Solved Stuck Radio Button

I know this might not be the right place to post this but Im not getting any response from Windows Live Solution Center.

Here's my problem in detail.

I can not get calender alerts in Hotmail.

I do get email alerts from ebay but i'm not sure that matters.

I do get indication that the scheduled alerts were sent in Recent Alerts.

THIS IS THE BIG CLUE.

I can not get the Your Alerts radio button to stay set to On. Leaving the Your Alerts page resets the radio button to Off.

Ive been through all suggested steps many times and all settings are correct ( Other than the Your Alerts radio button ).

The last suggestions from the previous moderator-

cooler4u, you need to optimize first your browser to prevent technical issues using this link for suggestions:

How to optimize Internet Explorer browser

All these settings were good. I regularly clear my Temp,Cookies,History caches. I verified the security level is correct .

Also -

With your issue on unable to receive alerts, I suggest that you try these suggestions below to receive your reminders:
1. Go to your Calendar page.
2. On the left-hand side where the individual calendars are listed, click on the "name" of each calendar and check or choose the option to "Receive a daily e-mail schedule for this calendar".
3. Then click "Save".

Note:
Make sure this option is enabled for each of your individually named calendars and don't forget to save the settings.

I had the "Receive a daily email schedule for this calendar" option selected for all three of my caledars. I even deleted 2 of my 3 calendars to see if that would have any effect on my problem.

Im 99.9% confident that I have not missed anything.

I hope somebody can figure this out!, Mahalo

I was checking my own Hotmail account (I don't use the Calendar at all but I went to the Options page were you set it up and I found the following message in red):

Thank-you for your interest in Windows Live Alerts. After much consideration we have decided to discontinue this service as part of the Windows Live offerings. Please sign up with Windows Live Alerts partners directly to receive their newsletters or other content updates from them. Hotmail Calendar Alerts and reminders will continue to be managed by Windows Live Alerts for the time being.

I don't know if it has already been discontinued or is soon to be discontinued, but this may well explain the problem (or serve as notice that the problem is coming soon). I think it is still active. On mine, the yes box is checked and remains checked (but I get none since I use Outlook and have the Hotmail account only for email that I get through Outlook as well - I almost never go to the Hotmail site so I can't really tell you if it's working).

To get there I went to Hotmail Calendar and then clicked on Options at the right side above the calendar. Then clicked on change how you get reminders. Make sure it is setup as you want and that the option to get alerts by email is checked even if you're not logged into Messenger and included even if you are logged into Messenger. I also verified what they told you to verify and the alerts are set to receive a daily email alert for the calendar (but again, since I get none, I don't know if it's woking even if it says it is).

Some information on alert problems can be found here: Not receiving alert emails from your calendar and at the link at the bottom of that page as well but nothing specifically addresses the issue of the alerts button not staying on yes (but it might help and is worth a shot).

If that doesn't help, then all I can suggest is post a question either in the Calendar Forum Hotmail Calendar Threads or the Alerts Forum Managing Alerts Threads (or perhaps both - I'd do both if I were you) as I do not know how to repair the Live Hotmail page so the button stays on yes. It seems to be a hotmail issue and I don't think it has anything to do with IE or Vista or your ISP.

If I were you, I'd create another hotmail account (one you don't plan to really use) and test to see if it has the same problem. If not, then it would seem there's some problem with your current account. If so, then the problem would seem to be more general and may have something to do with your Windows Live Calendar program or even your entire Live Essentials programs and they may need to be uninstalled and reinstalled (or perhaps just reinstalled if that's possible). If you get no replies from the hotmail forums, then perhaps you should try a re-installation or, if necessary, and uninstallation and then a re-installation (but be sure to backup your data before uninstalling so it isn't all lost in the process and can be restored later - I'm sure the backup procedures are documented on the Portal Sites Search Results.

But truthfully, you'll get the best advise at the forums I posted above (even if they are taking longer than you'd like to respond - perhaps because nobody has an answer to the problem - notice how long it took here for a reply and I didn't really answer your question directly but gave you some suggestions to try that I'm fairly certain will not help and recommended you repost essentially where you came from because they weren't helping). I'm sorry, but while we can often help even with other programs like this, a problem of this sort is beyond our scope of knowledge. Again, if nothing else works, the only thing I can recommend is backing up your data (all the data however it is done and wherever it is stored - calendar, email, contacts, alerts, whatever) and then uninstalling and reinstalling all the Live programs then setting them up again and then restoring the data and hope that resolves the problem (at least until they discontinue the service as they're planning to do).

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Glad to hear you're up and running - and on IE9 beta no less. Congratulations on both - I know many experienced users who've had great difficulty installing IE9 on Vista systems so it's a noteworthy accomplishment. But remember it is a beta product, so there will be some bugs. I've wrestled with a couple myself already - some I was able to "fix" and some I just have to accept (and report them).

Thanks for letting us know how it turned out.

Good luck and best wishes!
