Is system recovery my only alternative

Hi folks, I cannot use system restore except in safe mode, When i go into task manager i get a popup box saying task image is corrupt or has been tampered with,I have had suggestions to try delete (user feed synchronization task) and then go to cmd and type in (msfeedssync enable) but my problem with that was, my user feed synchronization feed is missing, I reluctantly did a vista repair which i have the disc for, which took 5 to 6 hrs only to find i still have the same problem, should i just live with the problem seeing has i can do a system restore in safe mode, or, I am thinking of a system recovery as a last resort, I do have an image backup on a external hardrive,and if i do that, do i just transfer the problem back with my backup drive. thanks, patch41.
