Making a DVD Copy

I have a family DVD that was made from older videos few years back. Have no problem viewing it on my laptop or DVD player.

I now wanted to make a few copies to distribute to family members. Have tried everything I know. I can make a copy & it does show that the DVD has made the copy with the files copied but when I do a playback, both my laptop & DVD player says unknown disk or no disk in drive.

I have a newer HP laptop with vista.

Hi Mike and welcome to Vista Forums

Are you closing and/or finalising the copies? By doing so, you write information to the lead-in and lead-out sections on the disk. Without this data, a disk may be classed as unknown/unrecognised when you try to access it.

Thank you Dwaft for responding.
I have tried Nero & a few other copying programs. I suspected one of the issues might probably the finalizing. I did look into this but could not find any good response. Most of them say that the programs will automatically do it for you!!!

I looked into the DVD Maker that comes with Vista & the step to step but when I go copy the files from my desktop which it does by the way, says that 4 out of the 5 does not fit. I have 8hrs of recording on each disk & the dvd maker says 150mins, so no where close. I used the free Nero BurnLite10 to copy which I did a disk copy. It did not give me an option to finalize, just said copy completed.

Any help would be great since I have spent so much time doing research I assume the solution is a simple one.

Thanks
Mike

Found the answer.
Copy the files from a disk or hard drive to another disk using safe mode or medium speed. The high speed copying option I used for some reason did not take.
