Hello I have a major problem a couple of months ago I ordered restore discs for my gatewat fx6800 desktop pc recieved my discs and restored my pc and it worked fine for a short while until it just stopped working again. I tried using my restore discs but they didnt do the job it wouldnt restore. I realized after some testing of certain things in my pc that my hard drive was no good. I went and bought a new hard drive installed it and reused the restore discs they went thru the whole process and restored my pc supposedly and then it told me to restart my pc when I did I get a message that says "windows could not complete the installation. To install windows on this computer, restart the application" no matter how many times i try to restore it I just keep getting the same message! Is it possible I need to buy a windows 7 or Vista in the store maybe the restore discs didnt come with vista? I just dont know if any one can help me I would greatly appreciate it .

Try Gateway support. If they charge to call on the phone, try the web site. It should have a support section. Tell them you had to replace the drive. Chances are the restore discs are hard-wired to only go on the HD that came standard with the machine.

If it seems like it's going to take a while, if you can access broadband, you can download a Windows install DVD and install it with no product key. It will let you evaluate it for some period of time with everything enabled. You have nothing to lose since if you get the restore CDs to work they will wipe everything anyway.

You might as well play with Windows7 while you're waiting. :)
