Is it a BIOS password or a Vista password? Please provide the make and precise model of your computer (and laptop or desktop). If it's on the computer, include the serial number as well. What version of Vista (32-bit or 64-bit; Basic, Premium, Business, Enterprise or Ultimate; what SP are you running)?

Thanks and good luck!

Its a Sony laptop with a windows vista home premium OEMAct, model pcg-7142l .
I don't know if it is a bios or vista password.
When I go to the f8 I tried all the options and when the computer continues to turn on it will go to the page where it ask me for the password and don't have a user. and I think is a 32 bit, don't know what SP mean and there is a lot of number on a tag not sure wich is the serial number.

Service tag is c6u04uee

If you're not sure what password it is, I'm not sure either. I'll give you links to deal with both.

If it is the BIOS password, it must be done at a Sony Service center: View Document 0 185182553. I can't find locations, so contact Sony Technical Support for help: Sony eSupport - Electronics - Select Your Model.

If it is your Vista password, see if the following tutorial will help: Password Reset - Windows 7 Forums.

I could not find that model number you provided at the Sony site and they don't permit access by Service Tag number so I can't find your specific computer. Are you certain of the model number? Was it purchased in the USA? If not, then where? Actually, it doesn't really matter because that was mostly for the BIOS password and they seem to have the same procedure for all their computers.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

On the back of the computer says Sony model PCG-7142L and some numbers 00148-100-891-602 and more numbers 28281234 3002028.

when I start the computer and press f8 and choose the option "repair computer option" it ask to choose the language option and then the next box asks for the
password so I get stuck there. so i can not make a recoverydisk if I have no options to work with, all options send me to the page that asks for the password. (This computer I am using now has a windows xp home edition unluckily). i will call Sony. thks

You can make that disk for the Vista password process on an XP machine - it just needs to be used on a Vista machine and should work unless it really is a BIOS password. The disk doesn't require a Vista password. I'd try this first as it doesn't cost anything - but that's up to you.

Good luck with Sony.

I am sorry but how do I make the Vista password process on an XP machine?, I also found a way to get into the Sony by pushing the F10 and it gave other options but to restore the computer to original, so I am thinking on finding a way to back up the data and just restore to original

also I was able to get into the bios by hiting the F2, so its the Vista password where the problem is,,the model is VGN-NS135E i found it by the computer hinges, kind of small letters.

My Computer

Using the F10 i got the next options:

Viao hardware diagnostic ( I ran it and it says everything is ok).
Restore C: Drive
Restore Complete System and
Rescue Data.

I have this little machine that will copy all data from a hard drive so I am going to phisically remove the hard drive from the Sony laptop and hook it to this machine and save all data and then i wlll restore C: drive.

Is that sounds ok, or is there a easier way??

My Computer

Restoring Vista may not remove the BIOS password if that's what it is - so this may not solve the problem (but it is possible it will - I'm not sure but you'll find out if you try it - and it certainly will solve the problem if it is a Windows password).

I'm not suggesting you do the Password process on the XP machine. The process, if you read the entire article, calls for the creation of a Recovery Disk - that disk can be made on an XP machine. Once you have that recovery disk, you boot to it (instead of to the hard drive) on the Vista machine and then follow the password process now that you can access the machine (unless it is a BIOS password which blocks even CD access). If you can't boot to the CD (or any bootable CD), then you'd need to change the BIOS to permit it. If it is a BIOS password, it won't let you in to make the change, but if you can get into BIOS to make the DVD drive first in the boot sequence then it means it probably isn't a BIOS password (though it still may be) and the process has a good chance of success. If the process completes successfully and the problem remains, then it is almost certainly a BIOS password.

I think this is easier (no re-installing updates, no re-installing programs, no resetting configurations and resetting up the network connections and all the other things you'll need to do besides restoring the data), but the choice is yours. If you decide on your process and still have the same problem, then you have no choice but to contact Sony to deal with the BiOS password.

Good luck!
