    Installed Windows Vista

    Hello everyone,

I'm new and also I am trying to learn a few things so bare with me! I installed Windows Vista onto my desktop and I noticed all of my information went to a windows.old folder. So the questions I have is, how do I transfer my data onto Vista? Also, do I have to reinstall all the programs I had on my computer like Microsoft Office, Quicken and so on? Thank you for your help in advance!

You should have backe up your information. You can get if from windows.old but it will be tedioius.
How to restore your personal files after you perform a custom installation of Windows Vista or of Windows 7
Windows.old folder - Restore into a new installation

    Programs must be reinstalled.

Thank you for the response. My ex's brother build my computer so I don't have any install discs for Microsoft Office or any other programs. Is there anything I can do to get those to install?

Really sorry, you must have the DVDs to install them. In addition, you probably need a key.

Luckily I did buy Microsoft Office 2010 for my schooling and it has three licenses that I can use and I have used one so I have two left! The rest I am screwed though.

I finally installed Microsoft Office 2010 on my computer. Now when I open up a Word Document I get a message saying, "Word could not create the work file. Check the temp environment variable." What does that mean?

In simple language, what is usually meant is that a registry error is preventing Office from working properly.
Try to uninstall then install again, beginning with a System Restore, in case the reinstall goes very wrong. Hopefully this will solve the problem.

So I took a break from the computer for a day and turned it on this morning. I had no errors when opening or saving a word document. Not sure what happened but it seems to be working now!

Use it (and hopefully enjoy it) and post back with the next problem that you have with the program.
