C folder .TMP files of 3000 kb each-can i delete?

I have a folder @ C: Mhn3v5IS, filled with 20 plus gb of .TMP files of exactly 3000 kb each. the files inside are all variations on Mhn*****.TMP, such as Mhn5vEnU.TMP these are temp files last accessed, saved, created and modified on the same date over 3 weeks ago. What are they and can i erase them? They are not hidden folders and when i deleted one by mistake (same format, but different name & smaller total size) I got NO warning message. Thanks in advance.... Love the forums, found lots of good info here in the past, so this is the first time I've ever needed to post.

Welcome to the forums
Temp files are ordinarily ok to delete, but I do not recognize yours.
Run an anti virus scan and download and run malwarebytes full scan. Lets make sure that they are not related to malware.

If negative results we will pursue this further.

A good way to clean up files is to download and use ccleaner. You can ask us which files are ok to check off for deletion and then leave those settings.

If no one comes along that recognizes those temp folders, I suggest that you use the suggestion made by Lorien or myself. They will accomplish what you want in a safe way.

OKAY I RAN CCLEANER, although after analyzing it should it was only cleaning internet files, adobe, multimedia and only recycle bin in the system, even though Temp, chkdsk, windows log, etc were all checked under system.

And strangely it shows and deletes files in Internet Explorer as well -though i never use IE! (i have a Windshield program that shows and cleans IE also, what up with that!?)

My Computer

IE is still there, it is just turned off and can be cleaned. If it is cleaned by another program it will still show as cleaned.
Try to right Click on it when you start as adiminstrator to make sure it cleans all, even though I never found that necessary except for system restore points..
If you checked everything correctly and something was not delted, may not be safe to delte. That is the beauty of Ccleaner, it is very mild. I would not delte files that Ccleaner does not delete. You could try checking other boxes. Ask us if you are not sure

I have ccleaner and it deletes what I tell it to, have no problem. It cleans all temp files.
I suggested it because, I use it and I know that it works. If you are not happy with the results you can try the suggestion by Lorien. That will work, too. Different posters; different approaches.

The thing about the suggested program I provided is that it specializes in temp files whereas CCleaner and others include most temp files but don't really get them all (but offer to clean things besides just temp files so I see it as not a choice of which one to use but rather as two programs which both offer options and perhaps should both be used periodically). When TFC is done, there will be no temp files anywhere on your system (whereas the other programs may leave some in places that aren't covered by those programs). So the definitive answer to your question is yes, they can be removed, but do so with this program rather than manually deleting them to be sure it's safe and done safely.

If you want to be sure you get all temp files off your system safely, I recommend you try this program. It won't clean anything but temp files, but it will do them thoroughly. I was shocked by how much it found and removed when I ran it - and I've had absolutely no problems as a result. The program is quite safe (or our Security expert would never have recommended it).

It's free and worth a try (and may even clear up more space than you expected or that the other programs can do as they are not designed with this specific function in mind). I've added it to my periodic maintenance routine because it works so well in ways other programs don't provide.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice...I really wonder what is this file ?!

Why would there be information to clean out of IE if i never use it? Every time i wipe?

My Computer

The only thing I can imagine at the moment if you never open IE at all is that IE is installed so it is subject to being updated by Windows Update from time to time and the update process may create files which can be cleaned and that may be what is being found.

It is also possible that while you are not using IE, some other program may be calling it to check for updates or do other functions (so there may be some background usage). The way to check for that is with Process Monitor Process Monitor and see over a period of time if IE is actually ever being used.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

Hello!

This could be some sort of malware. Probably the best thing to do would be to upload it to us so we could analyse it. Please choose any one, and copy it to your Desktop. Right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) archive. Now navigate to www.mediafire.com and upload it to their, remembering to set it as a public file, and not private. Then please send me the link in a Private Message. DO NOT post the link on this open forum, because it may just be malware, and we don't want inquisitive anybodies opening it up.

Thanks so much!

Richard

P.S. You need 5 posts to send a Private Message, to try to reduce spam volumes. Please just say thanks for this post or something, before trying to send the PM. Once posted, you can send me a PM by visiting this link: http://www.vistax64.com/private.php?do=newpm&u=151549
