Solved Pentium 4 3.0GHz HT runs at 2.0GHz

Hello. Gosh i have alot of problems. I bought a Intel Pentium 4 3.0GHz with 1MB Cache and 800MHz FSB. When i go into BIOS it says 2.0GHZ clock speed 800MHz FSB. I cant change any settings but i need to get it up to 3.0GHz again

The BIOS says 800MHz and it is also in the manual so it must be supported.

ANY HELP WOULD BE GREAT

1. Update the BIOS to the most recent version for your computer and version of Vista. The update may include settings not available in the current version. It may also support 3GHz whereas the current version may be limited at 2GHz.

2, Verify that your motherboard can handle that CPU - it may not support 3GHz. I could find nothing about its specifications online.

yeah funny board. Anyway the manual says 1 GHz up. My BIOS IS AMIBIOS and so far i cant find any updated to them. i have vista service pack 2 installed.

i checked CPU-Z the Bus speed runs at 133 and FSB 533 BUT the motherboard manual says 800MHz supported.

Okay, d/l cpu-z so we can see your cpu info. That'll tell us alot.

Take a screen of the cpu info and mobo info.

ok it will be up in a sec. btw i used prime95 to see if the 2.0GHz was idle speed. but it did not go up.

Its your wacky board and an odd bios.

According to intel, you should easily beable to run 800FSB.... According to the tiwaneese site

I think your mobos wack, and If you could swing it, find a new one.... even off ebay. But theyre running 60bucks US.

Maybe take a few pics of your bios so we can look at it to saee if theres a setting to adjust etc... Man this boards a pain!

Yeah PatonB you seem to be in loads of my posts. Anyway that board was the only 478 board with pci-e and sata in NZ so far. How do i take pictures of my BIOS.
Im not that fussed its only 400MHz slower than the Celeron i had AND this Pentium has hyperthreading. The Celeron showed around 200FPS in 3d Benchmarking PassMark but the slower Clocked pentium showed 500FPS in 3d Benchmarking PassMark

You can take pics with a digital camera.

I'm more of a hardware type guy, than under the hood programming type, and your issues/surprises are hardware so i can help contribute.

The P4 is clock per clock faster than the celron, so youre on par or faster, as you noticed.

But if possible, it'd be great to see you get full value for your chip.

Yeah heres another problem. My only camera's memcard broke. I will try find another one though. I would love to see my video card AND the P4 working on windows 7 but theres still no fix.

They may not be an acceptable filetype. Try zipping them and then attach the zipped file/folder and see if that works.

The chinese/tiwanese site for your board says it should be.

Hey all. FINALLY i got somewhere. It was more user error for not consulting the manual. WHAT I DID: I was looking through the manual and i found CPU Jumper. Apparantly the jumpers where configured to a max of 533MHz. I switched 'em to 800MHz and TA DAAAA i now have a pc with 3.0GHz running at 800MHz. I was going to try overclocking but oh well. FINALLY I GET GOOD FPS ON F1 2010. CHEERS ALL YOU ALL GET REP!

Well done! I have been guilty of "just doing it" without reading the instructions on far more than one occasion, so I understand how it can happen. I'm glad to hear that it is resolved and that it ultimately was such a simple solution.

Do you notice much of a change or does it simply now report things properly? I'm merely curious if it really made much of a difference to the point that you can detect it.
