Welcome
I would try two possible solutions
First try and SFC command
If that does not work, with system restore go back a few days before there was any problem.

I have also found, online, another solution, which is to disable Windows Defender, if used, but I have little hope for that remedy.

Try another user account.

The bad news is that you have posted over 5 hours ago and no other viable solutions have been posted yet.

Go to search
Type services
make sure that the service is on automatic, if listed.

Hi marinoumali,

Welcome to Vista Forums.

In addition to what Richard suggested above, I recommend we try to do precisely what the message asks us to do. Also, when Richard had you check the service to make sure it was on Automatic, also check to make sure it is started. Change it to automatic and Start it if either isn't the case. Please advise us if the service isn't listed at all or if you are unable to change it to automatic or unable to start it.

Go to Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Event Viewer and go to the System section and search through the messages until you find one or more related to "unable to start service" or "System Event Notification Service". There WILL be at least one such message - perhaps several. Double-click on the message and then click on details and copy the details. Save them somewhere you can access when online (the destop if you can go online with that computer or a flash drive to transfer to another computer with internet access). If all the messages are the same, then just send us the one. If there are different messages, please copy several, most, or all of them (depending on how many are different) and attach them to your next reply as well.

Let's see what it says about the problem. It may well identify the cause or lead us to it.

Thanks and good luck!
