Question about Dell and Alien Wear

I been wanting an alien wear computer for years, but now that I can finally afford one, they've been taken over by dell. and I don't like dell. so my question is, Are alien wear computers still being made by the same people who always made them, and just being sold by dell, or are they made by the same people who make dell computers? If they're made by the same people who make dell computers, then I don't want them.

Ailenware is a wholly owned subsidiary of Dell.
They must answer to the managment of Dell and the Dell shareholders. Day to day decisions are made by Alienware. Mfg techniques are still that of Alienware.

I know how corporations work, from many levels. When a company becomes a subsidiary due to a take over. The office staff is cut to save money ie tax dept. legal dept etc. But the manufacturing stays the same. That is why they take companies over, its to get their expertise and kill the competition.

To save money Dell may purchase the plastics, etc to make the computer because they can buy in bulk to save money, but the actual manufacturing is done by Alien

I added to the above, but you are correct. They are separate companies, but Alien must answer to Dell top management. The most likely connection in the manufacturing process would be the use of the same raw materials, plastics, etc to benefit from bulk purchases.

Hello!

I have never owned one myself, but I have known people who do. They have been very happy. They are extremely powerful. They seem to function well and reliably. I do not think that it should matter to you that it is owned by Dell. Alienware's are really very separate from Dell's, and everyone I know seems very, very happy with them.

Just my two cents.

I'm an Alienware (let's get the name right please) owner and believe me, it's a marvellous machine. The problem now is maintenance. Mine was made prior to the Dell takeover and recently, when 1 of my 3 hard drives failed, I ended up giving up trying to claim on the warranty and bought one myself. No big deal considering how cheap things are becoming. Of course new machines have a full Dell warranty, but I'm no fan of their service.

If you want a super-amazing-made-to-order machine I would suggest OriginPC as an excellent alternative. It's a company set up by ex-Alienware staff.
ORIGIN PCs - Holiday Special!

They have absolutely superb after-sales support from all the reports that I have heard. They will even do a one-off personally designed machine if you phone them.

Alienware are closing their Florida facility I believe which means 'Made in China' or wherever the rest of Dell's stuff is made.
