Hi i have currently using a pc with vista home premium 32bit and was checking out performance and tools section of vista to check if my pc can handle 64bit version.the guide from microsoft says to click on "view and print details".when i click on it i get an error "could not display details page.hope someone can help me.

See if it will work during a clean boot
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

For our purposes, just go into clean boot and try performance tools, etc.

~HI I tried to do clean boot but the same error occured.also ran reassesment.error still occurred.

Sounds like corrupt file or registry. Have you been using any turn up software or reg cleaners. Maybe with your AV suite?

trying the above procedure now.only used regedit sparingly and have ccleaner but dont clean the registry with it.

C) sfc /scanfile=(full path of file) how do i find out what the file is?

For this all we are only using sfc /scannow and there are no errors.

For a problem of this nature, Im reluctant to use measures that are usually reserved for large issues. But that would be your call. If you have a Vista DVD you can do a repair install.

sounds drastic.will i lose my files?

The story of how i noticed this problem is i have ordered some ram(4gb) and was thinking about getting windows 7 upgrade .I read that it was better to install the 64bit version of W7.a tutorial told me to find out if i was capable of running 64bit on my pc i had to go into performance and tools and click on view details.this would show me if the machine is 64bit capable .

I took the test and it seems i just need the extra ram.it says id need to do a custom installation of 7.can i still do this with an upgrade version or do i need the start from scratch version.

You go and buy the much cheaper upgrade version. Follow these instructions and you will have a clean install, like the more expensive DVD.
