Solved USB data lost forever?

Hi Folks,
I was in the internet cafe the other day and while saving pics to my cruzer sandisk I pulled it out while being advised to wait for safe removal.
I have done this many times before with no probs.
But this time the stick is completely empty!!!!!
Have I lost all the pics?
Is there any way to retrieve them please?
One promising thing is that the properties info shows the used/unused graph as being over 50% full so maybe they are there somewhere.

Hope you can help,
Cheers,
kev

Hi kev37,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

Try the following recovery programs on the USB drive and see if they help recover the data.

Recuva - Undelete, Unerase, File and Disk Recovery - Free Download (try Recuva first as it is the best)

http://www.snapfiles.com/get/diskdigger.html (try this second - if it doesn’t work either chances of recovery are very slim but you can try the other options if you wish)

Only you can decide if the data is important enough to take the flash drive to a data recovery expert to recover the files (they will have better programs and equipment to do so than any of us do and than I provided above). Do NOT go to Geek Squad or any of those big store centers - they mostly don't know what they're doing - take it to a data recovery expert. It will cost quite a bit (I mean, a LOT) and they usually offer no guarantees – you typically pay the same price if they recover everything or if they recover nothing. The decision is yours.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

The Geek Squad is extremely expensive as well. For example, for virus removal their charge for on-line service is $149.99, for in-store repair is $199.99 and an at-home service call is $299.99. There other service charges are similar -- I believe they charge $125 an hour for in-store services. That's a lot! At that price one might as well go to someone who's really capable --- which the Geek Squad guys and gals are NOT!

Hi to all,
I just wanted to thank you all for your help. Recuva seems to have located about 1000 files but unfortunately it is not a free downlaod as when I am prompted to restore the files they are asking for $39.95 !!! :(
Thanks again for the advice though.
I will try the other suggested links and see how I get on.

Kind regards,
kevin
