I'm limited to a guest account

Hi, my name is Tyler and I am new to this forum. I'm having this problem with my Dell Inspiron 530, operating on Windows Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2, 64 bit.
I've tried using the command prompt, the elevated command prompt. I've tried using my Vista boot disc, giving me an error such as "You must be an administrator to install Windows." This is all very confusing to me why this is working for others and not myself :L

I would appreciate if anyone helped me soon. Thank you.

    Re: Administrator Account

Hello TDX, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Are you logged in as an administrator?

Open the Control Panel (classic view), click on the User Accounts icon, and check to see what type of user account you have.

You will not be able to open a elevated command prompt, enabled the built-in Administrator, or install anything like Windows unless you are logged in as an administrator.

    TDX,

As a guest, you will not be able to do this. You will need to talk to a user (ex: parents, boss, owner) that is an administrator on the computer.

    Re: Administrator Account

There isn't any other users, recently I used this program NewSID to install a program I purchased and installed called CursorFX Plus. But this program is apparently not meant for 64 bit Vista systems. During the process of changing the SID, I shut off my computer because it was taking much too long. It had been installing for over two days. But before I stopped it today, I made a system restore so I could revert to where I was before I started NewSID. But after I shut it off and turned it back on, all was left was two users, my Administrator account (Tyler) which had been turned into a guest user account. I've been looking through many other forums and websites, I am stumped.

    Tyler,

You might see if you may be able to do a system restore at boot using that restore point to see if it may be able to fix this for you.

When I first booted the Vista Dvd at start, I must've accidentaly clicked Startup Repair, but it asked me to do a system restore and I said yes, but It didn't do anything, and it won't let me pick a specific one now
when I tried clicking system restore this time, it said system restore is already in the process?

Sounds like something may have gotten corrupted or interuppted somewhere along this process.

You may be better off starting from scratch and reinstalling Vista.

Is there anyway I can save my music files, I've already authorized 5 out of 5 computers on my iTunes?
    Any other solutions?

You can try Ubuntu to save your files
Use Ubuntu Live CD to Backup Files from Your Dead Windows Computer - How-To Geek

It is very far from certain that Ubuntu can save the day under these circumstances. Hopefully, it will give you another way to access your music; most likely you will encounter the same limitations that you experienced earlier. This method should be tried as a last resort, if others do not offer better suggestions.
