Favorite Links slow to display

Favorite Links populates very slowly on my computer running Vista Ultimate 32-bit. If I want to open a file, for example, from another application such as Word, the Open window opens, with the Folders area of the left pane immediately populated and the contents of the default directory showing in the right pane, but the Favorite Links area usually takes maybe 8-10 seconds before it populates. I tried tuning the indexing, with no effect, but possibly there's something I need to index that isn't in the list. My computer has reasonable compute power, with 3.5 windows experience index. It has an Intel Core2 quad 2.4GHz process, 4GB RAM, and is running Vista 32-bit. I just would not expect it would take so long to populate the Favorite Links list, and I'm looking for ideas and suggestions about the problem.

I am assuming that we are talking about favorites on the start menu, with programs and folders in the left pane.

Since there may be many causes, perhaps a few tests may be warranted.
Try in clean boot mode. Does it work any better

If, yes follow the clean boot procedure
How about in safe mode?
Try another browser

Try to reset IE
Tools>internet options>advanced>reset

Do you have an extrordinarily large amount of favorites.?

I'm talking about the upper left pane of the window that appears when you open Computer (see attached). I'm sure that information has things in common with the Start Menu and the traditional Favorites folder, but that is not what Favorite Links is. I believe Microsoft intended Favorite Links to replace the older Favorites approach when they designed Vista and Win7.

Me bad, I thought that you meant something else. That being said, I think that one solution that I gave in my previous post still applies. You have quite a bit there and it takes long to load. I dont think that you have a problem, its just the amount of favorites that have to load. I have only 4. You show quite a few and then it shows (click for more)
