Can't read data cd's on vista from XP computer

Help. My last computer ran Window's XP, I would back up my Data on CD's and DVD's in data format. Now I'm on a Window's Vista computer and I can't get it to read any of the CD's that were burned on the XP computer. If I put it in another XP computer it will still read it so I know that the information is still there and that CD is not corrupt. How can I get my information onto my Vista computer?
Thanks!

richc46 - thanks for your response. The trouble is that my computer does not even read that there is a CD in the drive. There is no Autoplay or Wizard that pops up. It will read (on some) how much space is used and how much is empty but that's it. It's not really a program that I'm trying to access but just files (.mp3, .jpg, .pdf, etc) that were burned onto the CD orginially on a XP computer in a Data format.

I posted and then deleted, I realized that it would not suit your needs. I am still looking for a solution.

Hi sqrrllvr,

Welcome to Vista Forums!

The issue is that Vista cannot naturally read XP backups - it just can't. But Microsoft foresaw that problem and I believe has an answer. Please see if the following will help resolve the problem: Restoring XP backups in Vista | TechRepublic.

I hope this helps.

Good luck!

P.S. If you're saying Vista can't read ANY CD created with XP (not just backups, but CDs that were just made by copy/paste) then that's another issue. For backups, try the above. For anything else, please post back and answer the following. Does it read other CDs made using XP (e.g., Music CDs or CDs with pictures or whatever)? What type of files are on the CDs it can't read (just a sampling of filetypes will do)? Can you burn and read CDs made using Vista on the exact same media used with XP (brand, type (CD-RW or whatever), speed, etc - assuming you still have some of those blanks left)?
