Solved I need to activate my Vista

Hi,

I need to activate my Vista I have the key from the sticker on the base of my laptop however windows keeps telling me that the product key is not valid??
(I need to reinstall vista, as I had a new hard drive installed).
My computer has a product key. My MS Office is active but I just cannot seem to fix this issue with my Vista having tried on several occassions... Any help would be great??

Hello Taaffe, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Double check to make sure that you are entering in correctly. It's not hard at all to mistake a 0 for a o etc.... sometimes.

Is the Vista edition (ex: Home Premium) and version (32-bit or 64-bit) that you are installing on the laptop the same edition that originally was installed on the laptop that the product key number on the sticker belongs to?

If so, then you might see if you may be able to do a phone activation to activate it instead.

My Windows number is 25 characters (5 sets of 5 numbers).

I also cannot access the online phone activation - it is not an option for me when I try and activate windows. Any other ideas?

Welcome to Vista Forums!

To manually activate, go to start, search box and type in slui 4 and enter. Enter your country and press next. You'll be on a screen with a phone number and a bunch of codes at the bottom. Call the number and wade through the automated prompts until you reach a human. Have your product code handy as it will be requested. Explain the situation and it's only installed on that one PC. They should give you a code to enter on that screen to activate Vista. Stay on the line with them until activation is confirmed (it should show in Start / Computer / System Properties at the bottom that the product is activated).

If that doesn't work (you can't get to the activation screen), post your country and I will look it up and provide you with the phone numbers you require.
