Help with CD Drive

Hey all
Can anyone help me? Today I put a blank CD in hoping to burn some music. The computer wouldnt even acknowledge that there was a CD in there. I ejected the CD and tried another and then another - no Joy. Aparently my "Burner doesnt exist"... I typed "CD Burn" into search and it came up that I had to download the recommended NCH software which I did. But this didnt solve anything.

Later I thought I'd be smarty and see if its only happening with Blanks... but now the draw wont open at all.

I havent removed any Software and Im the only user on this computer. Is anyone else having this problem? Any solutions?

Im using an Acer Laptop running windows Vista if this helps... Im unsure if its a 32 or 64 bit...

Thanks for your help!

Welcome
I feel because the drive will not even open, this is pure hardware problem and the drive door must be repaired. What you can do, until the reapair is to
Using a sewing needle push it in the little hole in the front of the dvd drive. This is a reset button. Push it until the drive opens.
Then be sure the driver is up to date and working properly, check it out from the device manger
You can try a system restore from before the problem. Then again, if this is a hardware issue these solutions will not have any effect

Another little trick, boot the computer and during boot continually hit the eject button, if it still does not open, it is a hardware issue.

My computer is telling me that everything is working properly so I gather its a hardware issue. Thanks for your help anyways! I have added to your reputation. Time for a new computer me thinks as this one is sick as an old dog as the best of times :)

First TY for the rep, its always appreciatd. Before you decide that its hardware (but it probably is), shut down the computer. Boot as you boot keep hitting the eject button. If it opens its software, if not more likely its hardware.
