Unable to add/remove anything from Windows Features :(

Hi,

I had to install some of the components from Turn ON/OFF Windows features.

But When I try to install IIS 6 Metabase and IIS 6 Configuration Compatability and ASP.NET from Windows Features, after 4 or 5 mins its saying, An error has occured. Not all of the features were successfully changed.

Infact even when I try to remove full IIS from Windows Features, I am getting the same error. But I did not get this problem when I enabled IIS for the very first time some 1 year or so back... I tried to do system restore now to some 3 months back restore point but that didn't help to. I even tried System File Checker using sfc /scannow but that didnt help either.

What could be the problem. How to solve this please, any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Have you tried to do a system restore, look and see if you have a restore point going back at least 5 days prior to the problem, by doing it this way you won't lose any of your data.

Hope this help's

Hi gopikrish,

Instead of trying to enable only certain functions or disabling all of IIS, try enabling EVERYTHING in IIS and see if that works. If not, please provide the EXACT word-for-word error message you get. I'm confused as to why it generates the error 5 minutes after you enable the features (unless it's taking that long to load them and that's when it notifies you of the failure).

If that doesn't work, here's a good article on installing IIS 7 in Vista - and includes dependencies and such other things. I suspect perhaps some dependencies aren't installed (which is why I initially suggested installling everything). Installing IIS 7 on Windows Vista and Windows 7 : Installing IIS 7 : Installing and Configuring IIS 7 : The Official Microsoft IIS Site. There are other links on that page to other resources that may also assist you. Here's another article from the same site that may help in terms of setup: Understanding Setup in IIS 7 : Installing IIS 7 : Installing and Configuring IIS 7 : The Official Microsoft IIS Site.

If you're still having problems, please post any error messages from the Event Viewer concerning IIS (Start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Event Viewer). Here's how to use Event Viewer: http://www.petri.co.il/vista-event-viewer.htm. Click on the error for more information, click on the details tab, and copy the contents from there to your next post. If there are several errors, please include them all. If there are a LOT of errors, please include a good sampling (and let us know about the others).

I hope this helps or at least helps identify the cause so we can find a solution to the problem. If not, we'll dig deeper into the problem until we find an answer.

Good luck!

Thanks Lorien. Sorry for the late reply.

I tried to remove entire feature of IIS but still after 5 mins or so it showed error.

Full error message I get is, "An error has occured. Not all of the features were successfully changed." This is in Windows Features window.

In event viewer I can see the same error 3932 times occured over the last one hour.
