Invisible Files

I have noticed in some of my Pic folders I have an invisible file.Like say in one folder I open it and I can see I have 30 pictures.I back out and right click and select properties it says I have 31 files in the folder.

Now this isn't a hidden file I can unhide.I've already gone that route and it won't show up.I can move out the pics and the folder will say 0 items but once again I click on the folder do properties and it will say that there is 1 item in the folder.

I know it's a small thing but it's just freaking annoying.

I'm sure it's not a thumbs.db file as I've used search and found those and deleted them.

So anything I can do to make those files show up?

Thanks

Welcome
Amazing, we are all volunteers here that enjoy helping others and that is reward in itself. There is another reward however and that is due to the fact that "The best way to learn is to teach" That being said, I learned quite a bit trying to research your problem. If this is the answer or not, I learned quite a bit about hidden files in jpg
How to hide files in JPEG pictures
Read the entire article, toward the middle/end it tell you how to unhide these files give it a try.

Thanks for the help, but that doesn't look like what I need.

It isn't something hidden in a JPG it's something in the folder itself.

I can open the folder and see that there are X number of pics.I move them to another place and the folder will say that there are no files in the folder.I back out of the folder right click it and select Properties and it says there is 1 file in the folder even though I can't see it or use Show Hidden Files and Folders to make it show up.

I have no idea what the file might be named so I can't search for it.

It's there but it's not.

Like I said it's a small thing but freaking annoying

Make a full antivirus scan, download and run malwarebytes after you update.

If rich's suggestions don't work and no other solutions are found, try this..
move all files from folder "A" to a new folder...delete folder A, rename new folder to A, right click>properties and see if "invisible" file is still there.

best of luck.

Thanks again rich. That didn't help either.

Kenny, already tried that and no the file doesn't come back & I'm about 100% sure it's not a recurring problem.

Alright one thing I forgot to mention is that these folders come from downloaded zip and rar files.either from torrent sites or the actual sites.(I assume you can gather what kind of pictures these are)

Is there some setting in winzip or winrar I can use to make those files show up because just checking Show Hidden Files and Folders sure isn't working.

With the amount of folders I have going through and deleting individually will be a real pain.I just want something to make them show up and then I can use search and delete them all at once.

Thanks

Now that I know the source and the type of material involved, it would be my opinion that it is more than annoying. I think that you downloaded much more than you realize. I am going to get help from our Security people. If your problem is much bigger than you realize she will be able to help.

I don't believe its viruses or malware. This is something I've noticed for a while now and I run avast,ad-aware and spybot every week.My computer is behaving just fine. It's just some weird phantom or invisible file I can't see.

Lets see if we can force super hidden files and folders to show

Download this file. Save the download, then extract the file 'here' (where you saved the .zip file) http://www.davehigham.zen.co.uk/downloads/xphidden.zip
Right click on the icon to run as administrator.
Click yes .... now see if those files can be seen

OK that is your problem !
Any chance that when you shared them with picassa, you uploaded them to
an online folder? Not really sure what you are running into here.i think application will delete until you ask to it.
As to recovery, you should be able to use a recovery software to pull
their images off the hard drive. You could either try going back to a
previous date using restore, or seeing if a professional firm can use a
disk imaging software to pull them off.
