indexing question

i think i have a common understanding of indexn, question, is there an ideal drive i should use?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean, but this may help below. If you meant what drive you should keep the index saved data location, then usually the Vista drive would be best if you have the space for it.

ok, maybe my idea of indexting wasnt exactly correct. lol.thanks brink, ya what i was thinking (remind ya im really new to this, lol) i have 60 something % of cdrv full, ddrv basicly nothing, thought maybe it would be easier and faster to read and get back. do i have a destorted view on what the hard drives can do?

No distortion at all on your part. You could use OPTION TWO in the link above to have the Index saved on the D: drive instead if you like.

so in your opion do u thinbk i should use my default settings? i was going to go0 ahead and rebuild, then i read how long it can take, and seeing how im so slow as it is, but i have a feeling cause the way my sis and her husband treated this computer... idk just have a feeling it needs to strt frm squr 1. what would u do? this comptr basicly was put in the closet to collect dust, then they wonder y its slow,

It really doesn't matter if you use the default location, or move the index data to be saved to another location since it really doesn't use that much HDD space anyways. It would be easier to leave it at the default settings though.

Vista will normally rebuild (update) the index automatically during low to idle activity on the computer while the computer is still turned on. Manually rebuilding (updating) the index is usually a good idea when you are not getting accurate search results since the index may not have finished being updated yet since the last time, or if you just made a lot of changes to the files you have included in the index and would like to rebuild the index to update it.
