Solved My windows default themes are corrupted?

Hi, thank you for your response! The problem is, that option is not even available anymore when I click "Windows Color and Appearance" with Windows Vista Standard theme activated (NOT Windows Standard). Also, the fonts seem to act funny, sometimes it decreases in size when I hover over them...

You should also do a MalwareBytes scan and a system file check to be sure.
Go to start search and type cmd
While holding down ctrl and shift press enter
in the box that opens type sfc /scannow
If errors are found repeat the test up to 3 times with a restart between each.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Have you tried to run a sfc yet if not here is what you do.

When you done look at it and see what it says if there are errors then run it 3 times, this can fix a lot of problems with your system, and also run it as administrator this is how. When running the scan don't use your computer just let it run by it's self and don't click your mouse.

1. Click on the start button...
2. Click all programs...
3. Click accessories...
4. RIGHT Click the command prompt and run as administrator, when the command box appears then type this.

sfc /scannow notice there is a space between the sfc and the forward slash. Let me know how things are going and it would not hurt if you did the following also.

1. Run a full updated Anti-virus scan with your security...
2. Download and run a full scan with malwarebytes, free version...

Just to weed out them possibilitys...

yep, that is exactly what I clicked but clicking on that whilst having "Windows Vista standard" theme activated simply pops out the window I have in my first screenshot. It doesn't give me an option to change the colors at all. Also, I think I should note that the graphics look dodgy as well, now I see double frames around my windows.

Display adapter it should be. Go to start search and type device and by then it should give you manager

BRAVO. AFTER COMPLETING AN SFC SCAN, Windows identified some areas that needed repairing. Gave the computer a reboot and the themes are back! Thanks americancritic!

Any chance you had installed a desktop enhancement product, something like a VistaGlazz that lets you use 3rd party themes? Some of them replace (I know VistaGlazz "patches") standard Vista files. I experienced this where my computer went back to the "Classic" look after a Windows Update while running VistaGlazz and running SFC didn't help (said it couldn't replace the files it found problems with). VistaGlazz has an option to "restore" the files it replaces/patches, which I did, and the Aero effects returned.
