Right-Click Menu Loses Option

Hi All,

First post! I've read a lot of good information that has helped me out with Vista x64. I'm moderately computer literate but just enough to be dangerous and the guides and posts on here have helped me get my laptop running like new.

On to the issue. I'm running Trend Micro Titanium max security on my Vista x64 system, and it seems to run fine. I use the Secure Erase function, which allows one to right click on an item and either delete is normally or selected the Delete with Secure Erase option (or something to that effect). I went to erase a file the other day, and all of a sudden the Trend Micro options in the right-click menu are gone.

I contacted Trend Micro, who had me reinstall the whole program. Solved the problem, but now it's happened again so I'm assuming reinstalling will not permanently fix the issue.

When I right click on an item now I automatically get what I believe is the extended menu (includes pin to start menu etc). From what I've read the menu I am getting is supposed to be accessed by holding shift when I right click on something.

Any ideas as to what might be causing this? I am not running any other security/antivirus software. I did use Adaware prior to uninstalling/reinstalling Trend Micro, but uninstalled Adaware prior to reinstalling Trend Micro.

Thanks!!

Welcome
After reading the above article, if you still have problems, try these suggestions:
Try with a clean boot, including the anti virus.
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7
Try from another user account. Doubt it, but your account may be corrupted.
Try another mouse. If it works its the mouse, get a new one.
If a new problem the last step should be a system restore.

If this is a new problem, this solution will probably work.

I think that the combination of this and the prior post should help. If it does not post and give us the results.

Your system might be a bit light on security if you are only using Trend Micro.
I would at least have MalwareBytes installed.

Malwarebytes

No idea what may cuase the deletion of your right click menu item. I suspect that there is some process that interferes.
But there are tons of tutorials on the web on how to add/delete entries from the right click menu. Here is an example. That does not fix the root cause, but it is easier than reinstalling the program all the time.

Will try working through all of your advice tonight. I'll post results tomorrow. Thank you all for your input!

As far as security goes, is Trend Micro not a good way to go? A friend recommended it and that is really the only reason I bought it. How would running malwarebytes and Trend Micro at the same time affect performance?

Free malwarebytes only scans. It will not effect performance. It is not real time protection.
