Vista login then logout problem

I have a problem with Windows Vista Basic. I had a blue screen error immediately when I would turn on the computer but I fixed that by rebuilding the BCD. Now my problem is that when I get to the login screen when I click on one of the two accounts it logs me in then immediately logs me out without even getting to the desktop. I had heard this might happen with only the non-administrator account but it happens with the admin and the non-admin. Does anybody have a fix that does not require being logged into the computer? I have access to the repair part of the Windows dvd but it tells me there are no restore points. I do have access to the command line.

Welcome
What I suggest is that you use Ubuntu, to first back up your stuff, just in case.
You can then with Ubuntu access anything that you want.
You may want to try a factory restoration. Each computer is different, but it is usually hitting an Fkey quickly and multiple times during boot. You will lose your stuff but the computer should be like the day that you took it home.
If you cannnot find the method for a factory restoration, give us the make and model of your computer and maybe we can help

With ubuntu, you can also try to reach last known good configuration. You may want to try in safe mode, also.

I forgot to mention that I'm trying to fix this for a friend so a factory restore is not an option. I have already backed it up and have a Ubuntu live cd handy. Any help would be appreciated!
