Solved System Event Notification Service

Hi.
After uninstalling a trial version of "Acrobat" pre-loaded on my laptop I receive a message "Windows could not connect to the system event notification service".
System event log entry is the same as thread Vista Event ID: 10 WMI ; which is a closed thread without "detailed" steps to resolve problem, merely stating "Deleted contents of Repostory & rebooted".
Can anyone please help further.
Many thanks.

I'm unsure if this is the correct thing to do - but here's how to clear the repository (originally found at this link: Repairing and re-registering the WMI ):

Open an elevated (run as Administrator) Command Prompt and type
"net stop winmgmt" (without quotes) and press Enter.
Leave this window open as you'll reuse it again later.

Open Windows Explorer, navigate to %windir%\System32\Wbem\Repository (%windir% is usually C:\Windows ). Rename the Repository folder to Repository_OLD
Then close Windows Explorer

Go back to the elevated Command Prompt and type:
"net start winmgmt" (without the quotes) and press Enter

Then type "exit" (without the quotes) and press Enter
Then close the elevated Command Prompt window and see if that fixed things.

See if this will help re-start System Event Notification......

Start button > in the search box, type services > press Enter key > uac prompt > scroll to find System Event Noti... > click it >
under Status heading, it should be ................ Started
under Startup Type, it should be ................... Automatic
If it is not set that way, right click at System Event Noti > Properties >
at Startup type heading, click the pointer and select Automatic
at Service status heading, click Start
click OK when done

Hi.
Thank you both for taking the time & trouble to try and help me.
I have completed both suggestions but still receive the same message on Start Up "Windows could not connect to the system event notification service".
At least I know the Repository and System Event Notification is Ok , it's just that Windows couldn't connect with it !

Suggestions only :

1. Run a system file check. It is used to look for corrupted files, and if it finds any, it will try to repair if possible.
How to do system file check :
Start button > search box type cmd > look up, RIGHT click on cmd.exe > click Run As Administrator > in that black and white cmd window, type at the flashing prompt sfc /scannow > press ENTER key.
Note : there is a Space between "sfc" and "/".
Sit back and wait. It will take some time.
When done, exit cmd window.
Reboot ( re-start your computer )

2. Create another user account with exactly the same account type as the one you are using. > logon to that new user account > do you receive the same error message ?

Sounds to me like the dependencies are failing to load, you can fix this by setting the services to automatic within the services.msc program, I will post a more detailed tutorial soon, just on my way out right now.

Graham,

It would be greatly appreciated if you disclosed how you resolved the issue.... for the benefits of everyone, particularly for those who may have the same problem.

Thank you.

The problem seemed to lie within Windows Repository ( not a code needed to remove the 60 day trial for "Acrobat" ).
As already mentioned the Windows System Event Notification was running OK but after clearing the Windows Repository 4 times ( as directed in Elevated Command Prompt Administrator ) it needed 6 re-boots to correct the trouble.
Again I thank everyone involved in helping me.
Graham.

Thank you for the feedback report.

A strange way to sort out the problem.......
clearing the Windows Repository 4 times,
6 re-boots.

My Computer

Yes I agree - I do admit having trouble getting into the Elevated Administration Level but after this it did take 6 Re-boots to get the error rectified . why I cannot explain. Thank you again. :D
