Right click on a photo where it tells you what to open photo with.......there will be a list of photo media to select from.
It may not have recognized it was a gif/jpeg/ or png file.
Post back and let us know.

Let me re-post my question. Let's say I have 50 photos in a folder on picasa. I pick 20 photos out of the folder and export to desktop. Once the folder is on desktop I open the folder on desktop. Now I am able to see 20 files of the photos in the folder but it only shows small horizontal line and a file name. All the photos are there but instead of small thumbnail or medium thumbnail it all shows up as a small horizontal line. In the past I was able to see them either small, medium, large of extra large under view option. Something has happened in my system which only displays line in the folder once the photos are exported from Picasa.

Hello Infosoftech, and welcome to Vista Forums.

Double check in Default Programs to make sure that Windows Photo Gallery is set as the default program with all of it's associations set to it as well. If you have Picasa (as an example) set as the default program for images, it may not support displaying thumbnail previews in Windows Explorer.

Hope this helps,
Shawn
