Speaker and Wireless Icons disappeared from tray after installing SP2

Hi,

I have an HP Pavillion laptop running Vista Premium 32 SP1, and yesterday I installed SP2. What I have discovered is that the speaker and wireless icons are not visible in the system tray anymore. I downloaded the drivers from the HP website before the installation. I have not changed the hardware so why am I getting this problem? I right clicked on the Window start button -> properties -> notification area and the speaker and network checkboxes are greyed out.

What I also dicovered is that the fan is coming on more often than previous, even if I scroll through windows explorer.

Any help would be appreciated.

Welcome
Hopefully, this will be an easy one to solve
Go to search (by the windows start button)
Type notification in search
In notification, just ck what you want to see.

If this is what you did, go back with a system restore. You will lose SP2, but it can be installed, again. It probably did not install correctly.
Good luck

Thanks for your reply.

However I don't think reinstalling SP2 will solve the problem.
Everything works fine. There are a lot of people having this problem.
Maybe downloading the latest driver for the wireless card may do the trick.

This is what I tried. I turned off the laptop, removed the battery and the network icon appeared after bootup. However when I rebooted again there was network icon.

Thanks for your help.
