DVD formatting trouble

I've recently done a Recovery due to corruptions of files or viruses or ?? Anyway, my DVD drive will play CD's and DVD's but will no longer format the same type & brand of DVD's I've been using for over a year. Needless to say, I can't move any files to DVD's any longer nor record anything on DVD's. What's the solution to this problem?

I had the same issue. But what I did was just replace the drive. :( I liked that drive too!

Does the drive give any error? When mine went I gave an error. Took that error code to google and a plethora of suggestions. (ex: Sony mode 12344 error Ax304958) <- not a real model or error just for example purposes.

How old is the drive? My DVD drive was only about three years old and I rarely used to burn anything. But alas with any electronics it's bound to die sometime.

Post back and give the information if you would!

I have no error messages. It simply says that Windows cannot format this type of DVD and to please try another type. Again, this is the same brand of DVD (Memorex +RW) that I've been using all along.
I hope I don't have to replace the drive.

Meh! Once you wrote that I'm thinking that you don't format DVD's!

If this is a new +RW DVD just write to or add if you're adding or if you wish to erase it .. then erase the DVD.

Only things you can format are hard drives, floppy drive, zip drives, flash drives. DVD's and CD's do not need to be formatted!

Try again!
