IE8 won't respond, just opens a blank page with no icons

Hi all,
My IE for some reason has stopped working. It was working fine the day before. But now everytime I try to open, it just opens a blank page with no icons or anything. It stays like that forever and becomes unresponsive! It had happened before too and usually restoring system used to solve it. But even that isn't working now. Please help ...

I have a windows vista home premium and a Sony vaio computer. If that helps

In addition to the above try a full anti virus scan and download and run a full scan with malwarebytes.
If it cannot be done now, check for malware after IE is working again.
You may also want to try a new browser; a good choice may be Chrome or Firefox.
