All the icons on the vista desk top have gone only back ground picture so can not start any programs or get to control panel etc. how can i get them to load when i start my pc. I did put a new video card in .may be thats the problem. but need to get in to change it.hope some one can help not very pc savy.

An annoying problem, but I think it can be solved. There are three ways to try
Reading and following this tutorail is the first way

Although an awesome tutorial it does not always help when the icons are for your software.
The second way is to try a system restore.

If you cannot go back 2 or 3 days before the virus, do not use this method.
The third way is the most time consumming, but it will work
Go to search, by the start button. Type the name of the program.
Then right click when it pops up. Then send to, documents. Drag from documents and then put on desktop.

Another method .....
Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete buttons together > click Task manager > click Processes tab > click Show processes from all users ( if you have more than one user in the system ) > right click explorer.exe > click End Process > Applications tab > click New Task... > in the Open box, type explorer.exe > OK.
Is the desktop back on as normal ?
