Solved Vista DLL Missing

So I was missing a .dll- Long story.

In my confusion I accidentally remvoed WTSAPI32.dll from my System32 folder to my Desktop. Apparently this removal is causing several things on my computer to work incorrectly.

When I try to drag the WTSAPI32.dll file back into System32, it acts as if it's being moved into it; But when the bar is finished loading (moving the file) it simply isn't in the System32 file anymore!

This is really freaking me out.

Little background information: I was missing WNASPI32.dll from my System32 folder, & accidentally removed WTSAPI32.dll. Now I have both WNASPI32.dll & WTSAPI32.dll on my desktop, unable to put them in System32. WTSAPI32.dll is the important one.

---

PS: I am NOT very techy. So you may have to explain things step by step to me. Thanks in advance!

Edit: When trying to open System restore I get the following error:

C:\WINDOWS\System32\rstrui.exe
File system error (-1073741515).

I assume this is from the missing .dll- Is there an alternative system restore?

What version of Vista are you using and is it 32bit or 64bit?

I'd be glad to tell you if I knew.
The only way I know how to find that out is by going to My Computer > Properties- But because of this .dll, that page fails to load.

As I said in my original post; I'm very un-techy.

OK, can you open the command prompt window?

Then run this to try and fix any corrupt files,

Do you have the install disc?

You seem to have quite a few problems.

I don't believe I do- Before I removed this .dll all of the stuff you recommeneded worked just fine.

Just to clarify: .dll is on my desktop.
Need .dll into System32. That's my only problem.

I looked in the box my Compaq Laptop came in & found two disks:

Recovery Disc 1 Of 2
Recovery Disc 2 Of 2

They recover Comaq- No sign of the word Vista. Would these be it?

Have you tried copy/paste instead of dragging?

Do you have UAC on or off?

I have tried copy / paste- It still looks as if it's moving, but doesn't.

What's UAC? Sorry- I'm untechy.

And Are these COMPAQ Recovery disks relevant? The just open a bunch of files in a folder- I don't understand.

My Computer

UAC is User Account Control.

What is User Account Control?

The discs you are talking about, are you putting them in the disc drive and restarting the computer?

I have already read that page. It says I need the restore disc, which I do not have- As I've already said.

Actually it say's recovery just like the title says and just like what you just posted saying you have "recovery disc 1 of 2." do you have the second one also?

I apologize for my lack of reply- I reset my computer & when prompted to "recover" by striking F11, I did so. Keep in mind this was without the recovery discs! This simply restored my computer like the OS disk would have.

Problem 100% solved. This laptop had so much junk, it needed a reset anyway. Thanks very much for your help, though the answer was right at my fingertips.

Thank you, very, very much.
All the best! :)
