Solved Vista Validation Concerns

Greets I am working on a friends computer that had received a few viruses over the years of ownership. When I encountered the computer she stated it won't let her update Adobe Flash software or update her browser (Internet Explorer 7).

So I checked out her HP G60 Vista Home Premium Laptop and found it wouldn't allow me to adjust, remove, download, install, view certain files, uninstall, or anything.

I checked the administration setting and that too was unable to be altered or accessed.

Thus I backed up the personal data - thankfully in time...

I manage to scan her computer with Window's Defender and it detected one virus which was removed - then the computer went crazy and crashed hardcore. Wouldn't start up again.

Now after using *Vista "Upgrade your Windows Vista Experience" Disc (from 2007) I am having issues with the Validation of the OS. Everything else is fine and hunky dory just need the computer to be validated and got a number of different things that happened. 1.) Was no Validation offered but Windows 7 on the Microsoft Website after being prompted to go there by the Key Validation. 2.) Will not accept the Auth code that is imprinted on the computer's sticker.

Computer specs
Laptop: HP G60
OS: Vista Home Premium SP1 (due to the disc setup) 32bit
Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo 2.00GHz
Ram: 3003MB

I'm at a lost here. I would be grateful for any help and thank you for your time!

Seems like a serious problem, but it is not. If your Windows is legal we will get it back
First
Go to the computer icon on desktop. Right click, properties. Is there a valid MS desgination on lower right?

According to the owner the PC had been 'repaired' before by a company. (Forgot to mention) It should be a legal copy as my assumption with the knowledge that the OS was installed and validated at purchase in 2007 (Files were updated too present date with OS files).

Unfortunately I am unable to find "MS designation" as you've described it's location. I'm not well versed in Vista OS's. I have my personal one which I am using right now but recently obtained it with no issues with the OS or anything. Thus been trying to compare the Laptops but found it was fruitless.

Note: Also the entire HDD has been reformatted which was out of my control as there were no other options to get it to start up. If that cuts the venture short well let me know.

Edit: Found that MS before when I clicked on properties it didn't show the window needed. *fist pump for Vista*

So that we can be sure about the missing validation sticker. See if you can find it on the puter that you are using, now.

On the HP computer the sticker is applied and intact. With the full auth code present.

I'll give it a shot, Windows 7 Validation will work for Vista? As the prompter states "NOTE: This is only for the retail version of Windows 7."

Same for Vista. The word retail is the important word. It means if you got the Operating System preinstalled, then you have to go to the computer manufacturer.

I see. I'm downloading the network adapters for the Laptop atm and porting them over. And I'll try the online install.

If it doesn't work I'll do the calling center hopefully won't be to complicated. It is 2:10pm and she wants it picked up by 5pm. I highly doubt I'll get the updates and security programs setup before she calls. *sighs*

I think that validating by phone is 24 x 7, but to speak to a rep. Its business hours or maybe a bit more.

WORKED! :D

Online worked though previous times before it wouldn't work. Dunno what made this attempt work. Wasn't anything different other than I didn't wipe the HDD before and now that I have it worked. Hm.

Thanks for your patients and your support.
