Crazy long load times

Hello all,
I recently did a refortmat of my computer because it was acting a bit sluggish. So right now the only thing on my computer is anti-virus software, steam with one video game installed and thats it. For some reason when I load up the computer, after I type in my password to logon, it takes 10-15 minutes to load up to the desktop of windows. Also, whenever I hit CTRL-ALT-DELETE the options appear right away for task manager and etc but when I hit task manager, log out, etc it takes another 10-15 minutes to load up. I know its not the one video game cause ive had it for years. WIndows vista does have service pack 2 installed.
My computer is a GT5453h
AMD athlon 64 x@ dual core processor 4200+ 2.20ghz
3.00gb ram
32 bit OS
I've never had this problem before. Any ideas as to how to fix it?

I would run a HD diagnostic and see if you are getting a gazillion retries. The HD may be on the way out.

Soluto
Easiest startup manager I've used. Not many options (great for average users; spectacular interface) but it sure gets the job done. Totally free. It might help you see what's taking so long to start up and help you organize it all.

Oh dang sorry Rich. Didn't see that part of your post. Oh well. Just shows that it's an awesome piece of software!

Oh. Maybe. But I don't think I've posted about it before...guess it doesn't matter. Ok better not let this turn into a personal conversation haha. If it's not startup programs, do those HD tests and make sure you're virus free. Another odd possibility is that explorer.exe is just not loading first. Or second or third or fourth... That Soluto program should help if that's the case too.
