Solved Administrator password says it isn't right but it works with the next click

Hello again;

This is an odd problem but the problem is as it says.

First of all, I am a user to the administrator's computer. It might as well be mine since I am the only one using the computer but anyway.........

I log in on my account and when I need to do something requiring administrator approval, a box pops up saying I need to enter an administrator password. I do so and hit OK.

Now however, after I do that, the box comes right back saying "Logon failure:unknown user name or bad password".

I click OK. Then the box disappears and whatever I wanted to do using the administrator password goes ahead and works.

I just had this laptop in the shop for overheating and they messed with many of my settings, I found out. Could it be that this setting has become disrupted somehow?

I want it to do what it did before-simply enter the administrator password, click OK and proceed. Not that extra step where it says Logon failure......

How do I fix this malady? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply. I have been re-learning how to create a new user account and deleting the old user account and I find that deleting will not keep email or favorites kinds of stuff but will retain most all other files.

My intention was to create a new account as you suggest and transfer everything I had from the old account into the new account. Now I find that everything won't transfer. How would I transfer email accounts over into the new account?

However, all this new account creation may not be necessary after all, I am hoping. I just discovered that when I sign into the administrator account, it proceeds right into his desktop without prompting for a password. Could this be a sign that my logon failure may have something to do with the administrator account not being password protected? How do I get the administrator account back to being password protected?

Thanks and I await any replies.

If everything works the way it should it a new account, I would trasfer everything over with Easy Trasfer. Marketed as a way to trasfer from Vista to Seven, I have tried it with accounts in Vista and it works. Open a new account, test the password then transfer. Once satisfied you can delete the old account.

You can also try to create a password in the old account

Thanks for the reply. I found 'create a password' for the administrator account. I re-created the old password and it took. Therefore, I must conclude that somehow they were able to delete that password when they were working on the computer. Once I reinstalled it, everything is like it was.

So, this problem can be marked as solved.

Thank you for your help. Do I need to close this thread out? I keep forgetting how. Sorry about that. Thanks.
